Summer workshop weekend 28th and 29th of June

€390.00

Join me for a weekend filled with creativity, art materials, nice foods, nature and like minded people.

I’m organising a special workshop weekend in my childhood home, which is located in the beautiful private estate called Dordwijk in Dordrecht, The Netherlands. The workshop area will be at my mum’s house where there is enough space to experiment in our sketchbooks, have a coffee in the garden and be inspired. For the people who are interested you can have a peek inside my studio, which is upstairs.
We will have a homemade lunch in the Orangery, which is a minute walk. There will also be time for a walk around the estate, which holds deer, horses, chickens, an orchard and a vegetable garden.

The weekend will include:
- 4 separate workshops
- endless amounts of coffee, tea, water and snacks
- 2 x home made vegetarian lunch
- art materials

We will discuss colour, mark making, composition, storytelling, drawing nature, maintaining a sketchbook habit and developing your drawing style.
There will be inspiring art books to brows and I have lots of finished sketchbooks you can look at. Let’s fill your creative cup before the summer starts!

Saturday 28th
10-10.30 arrival - coffee/tea
10.30 - 12.30- workshop 1
12.30-13.30 - lunch in the Orangery and a walk across the grounds
13.30-15.30 workshop 2

Sunday 29th
10-10.30 arrival - coffee tea
10.30- 12 workshop 3
12- 13 lunch
13-14.30 workshop 4
14.30 -15 show and tell and say goodbye.

Workshop 1: Colour and mark making
We will go into colour, hue, value and saturation. We will discuss and practice creating different colour palettes. Most importantly we will spend time creating a personal colour palette that you love and works for different topics. We will approach mark making in a similar way - we will go into the ‘‘theory’’, textures and layering, but the aim is to develop your personal way of making marks.

Workshop 2: Composition, perspective and reality
We will look at different compositions and works of art with convincing perspectives and practice creating our own.

Workshop 3: storytelling
Every sketch, illustration, work of art that ‘‘works’’ conveys an emotion or a story (in my opinion). We will look at how we can create stories ourselves. We will do different exercises to get our imagination flowing, which will help us create unique images.

Workshop 4: the sketchbook habit
we will go into how to maintain a sketchbook habit. I will have different exercises for you to take home and I’ll share tips for filling a sketchbook both on holiday and during ‘‘normal’’ work/family life. We will have time to discuss what it is you want to develop after this weekend is finished. If your want to practice drawing portraits/people, I will give tips and have reference images. The same goes for people who might be more interested in animals or foliage.

Everyone will receive an A5 Royal Talens sketchbook to work in and take home (if you have a favourite sketchbook, or one you already started, please bring that along, together with your favourite materials)

Max 10 people (min. 8)

If you need to book transport or a hotel, please wait until I’ve sold 8 tickets. I will let everyone know as soon as the workshop is confirmed.I will then also share some accommodation tips in case anyone needs them.

The easiest way to get to the workshop location is by car (free parking) but you can also travel to Dordrecht station and get an OV bike (7 minute cycle), a bus and then a 10 minute walk, or skip the bus and walk for 30 minutes.

You can cancel up to a month before the course starts to get a full refund. If you cancel up to 2 weeks before the workshop starts you will get 50% of your money back (unless you can find a person to buy your ticket from you. I can also help you with this). I’m unable to refund you if you cancel at a later time. Please always contact me if you want to cancel your ticket. I’m glad to help you find a solution so that everyone is happy.
